Double Wild

Hayley and Jesse grow many tasty things on their beautiful farm in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains but the clear standout is their peaches. Double Wild Farm sits at 1,300 feet. We can’t explain it but there seems to be something about the elevation that contributes to their incredibly delicious peaches.

It’s one of the oldest certified organic farms in the state, founded by Carl Rosato as Woodleaf Farm and first certified in 1982. It’s been farmed organically ever since, next by Danny and Drew (as Peach Jamboree), and since 2024 by Hayley and Jesse, as Double Wild Farm. A few years back, we were thrilled to learn that Hayley and Jesse would be the new caretakers of this special farm. Through the transitions of ownership, the approach has remained the same: nurturing ecological relationships and fostering native habitats alongside the growing areas to create an ecosystem that produces the tastiest fruit and vegetables. We saw this when we visited Hayley and Jesse in Fall 2024. As we climbed the lush, green slopes from one orchard to the next, we were greeted by native pine and oak forest on the margins of each field.

Farming is never easy, but it’s been a wild ride so far. In July 2024, amidst a 4th of July heat wave and just a few months after moving to their new farm, the Thompson Fire tore through the area. The farm emerged unscathed, thanks to CalFire and favorable winds, but it made for a harrowing week of anxiety. The 2025 season provided its own set of challenges, with stone fruit yields down at Double Wild and across the state by as much as 30%. This has meant a refocusing on direct sales and farmers’ markets and fewer of those beautiful mountain peaches available for fruity fan clubs such as ours (yours!).

Imagine our excitement when Hayley reached out to say she could have fruit for us this week!! July 4th holiday market closures meant there were peaches to share. This week, we’re so happy to be featuring Double Wild’s fruit in the fruitqueen boxes. We have a white peach and a yellow, Sugar Lady and June Pride. Double Wild peaches are characteristically dark, way beyond blush, as if wrapped in purple velvet. They are truly tree-ripened and ready to go, at once dense-fleshed and juicy. Don’t wait, sink your teeth into one and taste the mountain summer. Grown organically in Oroville by Double Wild Farm.
