Organic Sapphire Blueberries

Sapphire blueberries are in season at Forbidden Fruit Orchards! This is the sweetest variety right now and the texture is firm and crisp. These blueberry plants grow lower to the ground with more sprawling crowns. This makes hand-picking a little more challenging but it's so worth it for the flavor and texture of these Sapphire blues.

Farmer Sandra Newman grows blueberries on a southern slope about 12 miles from the ocean, in an area protected from frost. Unlike other California blueberry growing regions, Sandra's blueberry season starts in September and can run until the end of July.  At the western edge of the Santa Ynez wine-growing region, the mountain range funnels cool and temperate weather in allowing for a longer hang time for ripening blueberries. This lengthier ripening time and ideal climate yields wonderful flavor and helps maintain a firm texture in these blueberries!
